Sometimes things happen for a reason. For KINDOM’s Eco Life Challenge Speaker Series during Earth Month, we didn’t have a speaker for the first week, highlighting Circular Design. But the Universe has its ways - lo and behold - and through our F.A.K.E. Movement community, connected us to Joey Pringle, Co-Founder of Veshin Factory, a development & production facility who specializes in vegan bags made of pineapples, cacti, apples, and soon, mushrooms. CIRCULAR DESIGN IN THE KINDOM

In late 2019, we decided to stop traditional manufacturing - even though it was small-scale & we used sustainable materials - and focus instead on upcycling existing products using indigenous handwoven textiles and whatever reclaimed dead stock fabrics we have left.

Using handmade “langkit” trim created on a makeshift back strap loom from found objects, we upcycled our Amanda top into our Amira top above with stories of the Maranao indigenous community, who were displaced during a local conflict a few years ago. These trims were created during their time at the evacuation center.

We also collaborated with a few like-minded artists. From the eco-dyeing and eco-printing of Anna Carolyn Meier, to the hand-painting of artist Edward Davila, some of KINDOM’s styles have found a second life, and more importantly, is an example of circular design.
